Beauty challenges the 'big four' etail sectors

Survey shows 32% of shoppers bought beauty products online in last 12 months

UK based GeoPost subsidiary DPD has conducted a survey to establish the etail sectors most likely to challenge the ‘big four’ of books, clothing, DVDs and CDs. DPD questioned online shoppers about the products they bought in the last 12 months and items they would consider buying in the next 12 months to identify the fastest growing etail sectors. Beauty & healthcare was fifth on the list of products bought online in the last 12 months – just under the ‘big four’ – with 32% of respondents having purchased beauty & healthcare online.

In addition, the number of people who said they’d consider buying beauty & healthcare products online in the next 12 months was 24% higher than the number who purchased beauty & healthcare this year.

According to DPD, beauty & healthcare, as well as kitchen & home, toys & games, electrical & photographic, garden & outdoor and software & games presents the most significant growth as it is already an established online sector.

Commenting on the research, DPD ceo Dwain McDonald said: “Online shopping has rapidly grown to become a mainstream retail chanel in the UK. Over the last few years an increasing number of people have switched on to the convenience of shopping from home and thanks to the internet it has never been easier to research and compare a wide range of products from different retailers to find the best deal.”
