Personal Care Ingredients
Our Zemea® propanediol is the world's first 100% natural glycol alternative approved by Ecocert™ and certified by the Natural Products Association. With its skin-friendly performance, including no irritation, enhanced moisturization and excellent aesthetics, Zemea® is seeing rapid adoption around the world in skin care, hair care, deodorants, fragrances and other cosmetic and personal care products. Derived from corn sugar fermentation, Zemea® replaces petroleum-based glycols or glycerin in many natural and traditional personal care formulations.
It can be used as a humectant, emollient, natural solvent, viscosity enhancer, hand-feel modifier and for botanical extraction and dilution It is also being used as a carrier for active ingredients, as an ingredient in natural preservative systems and for developing natural esters and ethers.
Environmental sustainability benefits include significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy consumption in its production (based on LCA data).

NEW!! Zemea® Propanediol May Enhance Efficacy of Preservatives
Skin Irritation and Sensitization
What's New?
Zemea® may enhance efficacy of preservatives!!
Challenge testing was recently conducted with 7 preservative systems that were tested at one-half their recommended use level and evaluated in 4 separate oil-in-water skin care emulsions with varying levels of Zemea® (0.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 wt%). Zemea® worked well with the Phenoxyethanol-based preservatives against gram-positive, gram-negative, and yeast organisms and had consistent results with each preservative against Aspergillusniger. Zemea® may allow the use of less preservatives in formulations while providing additional performance benefits such as no skin irritation, increased humectancy and excellent aesthetics.
