Neutrogena’s parent company Kenvue is consolidating its operations in New Jersey

Neutrogena is closing its Los Angeles office and laying off 84 employees.

The closure comes as parent company Kenvue consolidates operations in US manufacturing hub New Jersey.

According to a worker notification document viewed by Bloomberg, 74 of the 84 employees in question have been offered relocation and employment at other company locations.

Kenvue is moving its headquarters to Summit, New Jersey, where it has a renovated office building and a new R&D facility.

Its current head office is based in nearby Skillman.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) acquired Neutrogena in 1994.

It sat alongside names including Johnson’s and Aveeno in the healthcare conglomerate’s portfolio until J&J spun its consumer brand business off into Kenvue

Kenvue floated on the New York Stock Exchange last year in an IPO that valued the business at around US$41bn.

However, in Q4 2023, its Skin Health and Beauty business performed below expectation with organic growth of just 1.8%.

Commenting in February on the results, CEO and Director of Kenvue Thibaut Mongon said that “restoring Neutrogena to the level of growth we know the brand is capable of” was a company priority.

Kenvue is further dismissing 51 staff members from its Skillman, New Jersey location this spring.

Other parts of the business are also being restructured, said the company.
