Independent beauty retailers in the UK are continuing their post-pandemic bounceback, according to a new report.

Research commissioned by the British Beauty Council and carried out by the Local Data Company found 1,653 additional units opened between September 2022 and 2023.

“The picture the data paints for the beauty retail sector is interesting, with an increase in independent retailers and an overall decline in larger chain stores,” Victoria Brownlie, Chief Policy Officer at British Beauty Council, told Cosmetics Business.
