ASA upholds complaint against Foot Care

Published: 12-May-2011

Claims were “unauthorised” and “misleading”

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint against UK-based beauty company Foot Care. This relates to a regional press advert, which claimed three products – Revive Day/Night Cream, Clear Skin Gel and African Potato Cream – had a number of medicinal and skin related benefits.

The Revive Day/Night Cream was claimed to re-energise skin cells, resulting in more effective repair and protection, clears skin blemishes and regenerates and strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier functions, while the claims for the Clear Skin Gel and African Potato Cream were said to be medicinal.

The ASA found the claims for the Revive product could not be substantiated and Foot Care could not demonstrate the claims for the Clear Skin Gel and African Potato Cream were in accordance with the relevant authorisation so were therefore misleading. As a result the advert cannot appear in its current form said the company.
