New equipment at Micromer :
A flux cytometry analyzer to control the microbiologic quality of cosmetic products in 24 hours

Micromer, the IDEA Tests Group subsidiary in charge of microbiological activities, continues its investment strategy in acquiring a « Bactiflow ALS ®», an analyzer in flux cytometry that controls the microbiologic quality of the cosmetic products in 24 hours. Sophie Corre, PhD / Head of Micromer, explains us how it works. She’s delighted by this new acquisition that offers plenty of advantages for her customers:

”The technique is based on the individual fluorescent labelling of each intact and able to proliferate cell. In the context of microbiologic regulatory controls, the interpretation is done as following: if the test is negative, the product is in accordance with absence of bacteria, yeast and pathogen (1g of product). If the test is positive, the product will have to be relaunched in reference analysis for an enumeration and a research of specified germs.

This technique offers numerous advantages. The first one is the rapidity obviously, as the results are obtained in 24 hours and sent to the customers in less than 48hours, with an increased sensitivity in relation to classical techniques (1 UFC/g). Moreover, it couples a presence / absence test of bacteria and yeast and thus an absence of specified germs in case of negative results. Last, it offers a better detection of micro-organisms stressed or at slow development.

From a regulatory point of view, those alternative techniques of cytofluorimetry are now admitted by the pharmacopeia and cosmetic reference tables (ISO 18415, ISO 2114).
