Bottom implants dominate US cosmetic surgery in 2014

ASAPS data shows this type of treatment grew 86% last year

When it came to cosmetic procedures, last year consumers were investing in larger bottoms and slimmer figures, according to new stats from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

The data, which is currently being compiled, has already revealed some clear trends: the number of buttock augmentations in 2014 increased by 86%, arguably fuelled by the rising influence of celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj.

In addition non-surgical fat reduction procedures were up 43%; it is said to be the first time that ASAPS has tracked more than 100,000 of these procedures performed during one year.

Michael Edwards MD, President of ASAPS, said: "Non-surgical fat reduction is a new frontier in the realm of cosmetic procedures. The rise in its popularity is indicative of the public's desire for nonsurgical alternatives in lieu of their invasive counterparts. Due to the technological advancement and efficacy of nonsurgical fat reduction devices, it's not surprising that more people are opting to freeze or melt away stubborn body fat in the comfort of their surgeon's office as opposed to undergoing surgery; however it must be noted the results aren't the same. Not everyone is a candidate for nonsurgical treatment as well. Many will still be better served from a surgical approach to include liposuction."

In 2014 over 10 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed by board-certified surgeons in the US – most likely to perform cosmetic procedures. ASAPS is expected to release its full 2014 stats in March.
