The negotiators for the planned European Union and US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade deal should redouble their efforts to find ways of dovetailing EU and American personal care product regulation, a senior European Commission official has said.
Speaking at a European Policy Centre-organised conference in Brussels on health regulations, Ivone Kaizeler – trade barriers policy officer for its directorate-general (DG) for trade – called on regulators on both sides of the Atlantic to work together, given the significant differences in policy approach between the EU and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on regulation of cosmetics and personal care products.
