The mobile fashion game now includes 50 models aiming to celebrate women and their differences

Diversity is being embraced in the virtual world as mobile game Covet Fashion relaunches the app to include new models that are diverse in skin tone and size.

The app's 600,000 users can pick from 50 new models to create their own outfits from more than 175 real-world brands for location based challenges, such as a red carpet event or holiday party, and then enter them into fan-rated competitions.

The app company said its “Evolving the Standards of Beauty” campaign is a product of feedback that Covet Fashion received from the players, who wanted the models to be more representative.

To prevent racial bias within the game, players will be presented with a randomly selected model for each challenge and everyone has to compete in that challenge using the same model. They will still be able to customise hair, facial features and make-up but the body will stay the same.

“When you see a line-up of the models we’re using, we have great variance,” said Blair Ethington, Covet's Senior Vice President and General Manager.

“We feel really strongly that people learn by doing and that’s a more powerful way to learn by change.”

The app was launched in 2013 and prior to the updates, players could only pick from one mannequin-type model and five different skin colours.
