South Korean cosmetics from China are being sold in North Korea disguised as products from Southeast Asia. North Koreans believe Chinese-made cosmetics are inferior in quality while South Korean products are illegal, which leads to subterfuge.

Despite brand names and packaging in English, the products include instructions written in Korean, so people choose to recognise them as “Southeast Asian cosmetics.”
