Market research company highlights key cosmetics trends in the Americas

Market research company Euromonitor has highlighted a number of significant key cosmetics trends in the Americas.

It noted that BB creams have seen increased popularity in countries such as Brazil and Mexico where, despite their extra expense, they are still perceived as cheaper to buy than separate products. Nail products are still very popular in markets such as Argentina and the Dominican Republic, the firm said. In Argentina, nail colour is now more popular than lipstick and has become the best performing personal care sector, while in the Dominican Republic nails are the only sector to buck the downward trend.

In Chile, skin care is the growth area, driven by product development and technological advances, especially in anti- ageing products – including those targeted at men – according to Euromonitor. Meanwhile, Costa Rican consumers rank among the top three countries for per capita consumption of cleansers, toners and cream in Latin America.

In Bolivia, direct selling firms are relying on traditional advertising strategies such as TV commercials, print media and billboards to promote their products to consumers, and direct selling is also doing well in Ecuador, where it is the largest distribution channel for beauty and personal care products.
