The Fragrance Foundation has spent the past 18 months training UK sales consultants to become fragrance specialists in time for Christmas.
The Fragrance Foundation Online Training Programme is designed to broaden knowledge of all aspects of perfumery, from the ingredient building blocks that create fine fragrance to how fragrance can be expertly sold in store.
It focuses on ways to educate and assist sales consultants and their customers. The idea is to help customers discover their ideal fragrances and additional products for themselves or for a gift.
Customers will be able to identify a sales consultant who has completed the programme because they will be wearing 'The Fragrance Foundation Fragrance Specialist' pin.

Retailers already using the course include Boots, Debenhams, escentual.com, feelunique.com, Fenwick, The Fragrance Shop, Superdrug, The Perfume Shop and Voisins.
The Fragrance Foundation is also introducing a new Fragrance Expert Course, which is a new Online Training Programme for Temporary Staff.
The Fragrance Foundation says: “We are dedicated to making sure everyone selling fragrance this Christmas is providing the best service possible to consumers.”
