Shanghai plant increases group's production base for chemical products and cosmetics

Kao has completed work on a ¥5bn new plant at Shanghai Fine Chemical Industrial Park, increasing the group's production base for chemical products and cosmetics in China. The company now has three plants within the region.

The 83,000sqm plant will produce surfactants, key ingredients for shampoo and other cosmetic products, and is set to play a key role in product development to meet the growing needs of the Chinese market. Products currently in development include eco-friendly ranges using technology orginally developed by Kao in Japan.

The Japan-based compnany plans to continue actively investing in production facilities for the chemical business, aiming to achieve profitable growth globally. Its portfolio of brands currently includes Bioré, Jergens, John Frieda and Molton Brown.
