Reality TV stars Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian have hit back at US beauty brand Kroma, after the company filed a cease and desist letter in November to stop the famous sisters from trading under the brand name Khroma Beauty.

According to the Huffington Post, US celebrity branding agency Boldface Licensing + Branding, who is responsible for developing the Khroma brand with the Kardashians, filed a lawsuit at the District Court in California for a declaratory judgment supporting its use of the word Khroma.

According to the company's official legal complaint, it described the name Kroma as one that "consists solely of a descriptive term and lacks any inherent distinctive meaning to the relevant consuming public and therefore, is conceptually weak."

The lawsuit from Kroma is the second legal battle to hit the Kardashians since they announced the launch of their beauty line. In October, high-end colour cosmetic company Chroma Makeup threatened to sue the stars for causing "widespread confusion" among its customers.

Despite this, Boldface told the Huffington Post that it had "gone through the appropriate legal channels in obtaining the rights to use the name Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloe."
