Move into this area was ‘next logical step’, according to ceo

Specialty ingredients manufacturer Kemin Industries has entered the personal care arena with the launch of its new division Kemin Personal Care – which has developed natural, plant-based functional and active ingredients for cosmetics, skin, hair and body care manufacturers.

Kemin Personal Care is to be led by Kerty Levy who is the former worldwide vice president of Kemin Industries. She says that the move into personal care was a logical one, given the company’s robust portfolio of natural ingredients coupled with the rising consumer demand for natural personal care products.

She comments: “Today’s savvy consumers are scrutinising the ingredients in personal care products and driving the demand for natural products that are safe, efficacious and sustainable. For years Kemin scientists have been extracting plant bioactives from rosemary and marigold flowers for use in food and health supplements. These same products, when reformulated, provide a highly effective alternative to the synthetic ingredients used in many personal care products today.”

Functional ingredients available from Kemin Personal Care are Speramox, Rosamox and Lysofix. The first is a natural antioxidant extracted from spearmint leaves to maintain the colour stability of both natural and synthetic colours while Rosamox is a natural proprietary rosemary extract that prevents oxidative degradation of fats and oils. Lastly, Lysofix is a natural emulsifier, extracted from soyabeans, that keeps oil and water in emulsion.
