MUJI to re-open London flagship with widest product offering

Retailer also plans China expansion

MUJI is to reopen its Tottenham Court Road store this month, with updated fittings and a host of new products.

The London store will stock the widest selection of MUJI goods across the UK, including cosmetics, personal care products and beauty accessories. A special shopping event will take place on 10 September, offering consumers a chance to win a trip to Japan.

The development is part of the retailer’s wider European refurbishment scheme, which has also seen stores updated in Munich and Paris. The retailer has also shared plans to boost sales in China, despite fears of the country’s slowing economy. MUJI will open a flagship store in Bejing in 2016 and plans to accelerate its expansion in the country by adding 35 new stores a year in China.

Satoru Matsuzaki, President of Muji’s operator Ryohin Keikaku, told Reuters: “Chinese same-store sales have been up almost 20% year-on-year. Those with high-end goods have been affected, but Mujirushi Ryohin hasn’t seen any impact and don’t see this changing.”
