Niche Italian fragrance brand Mona di Orio has announced the release of Myrrh Casati.
Created by perfumer Melanie Leroux of Mademoiselle Parfumette, it was inspired by a famous fin de siècle beauty Marchesa Luisa Casati, who was painted by Boldini and given to wearing a boa constrictor as a necklace.
It has notes of Peruvian red berries, pink pepper, Guatemalan cardamom, saffron, licorice, Siamese benzoin, Somalian myrrh, Somalian incense, Indonesian patchouli, Indian cypriol, nagarmotha, and Paraguayan guaiac wood.
The fragrance costs $195 for 75ml and comes in the new di Orio bottle, designed by Ateliers Dinand and inspired by the sculptures of Brancusi. It is cylindrical with a rounded, extremely heavy solid glass bottom, and a wide, round, gold top. The top for Myrrh Casati differs from others in the collection in being of a slightly matte finish.
The fragrance is one of three that have been created by other perfumers for the house since the founder’s sudden death in 2011.
