A three-year-old toddler has died after allegedly consuming the farm's bath milk

An Australian organic farm has agreed to a voluntary recall of its Organic Bath Milk product, after a three-year-old toddler died having allegedly consumed the product.

Mountain View Organic Dairy's bath milk contains raw or unpasteurised milk, but clearly states on the label that it is a 'cosmetic product' and carries a warning that it is not suitable for human consumption.

Mountain View Organic Dairy, based in Gippsland, Victoria, confirmed the recall on its Facebook page, where it posted: “We have been asked by the ACCC [Australian Competition and Consumer Commission] to do a voluntary recall. If anyone has purchased Mountain View Bath Milk, please either dispose of the container or return to the place of purchase for a refund.”

The Organic Bath Milk is sold in one and two litre varities and was stocked by Belgrave Organics, Upper Gully Organics, Cannings Free Range Butchers, Little Organic Shop, Bolton St Deli, Peninsula Fresh, Bryant's Organics, Transition Farm, The Raw Store and Stella's Pantry.

The incident has caused a divide in opinion about the safety of unpastuerised or raw milk. In Australia, the sale of raw cow's milk for consumption is illegal, however, it is not illegal when sold as a cosmetic product.
