Research commissioned by Stowaway is being used to back the brand's 'right-sized' products

New research commissioned by Stowaway Cosmetics suggests that a large proportion of US women are hoarding beauty products well past their expiry dates.

The survey, conducted by Poshly and carried out on 4,000 women, found that more than 80% of the participants keep hold of a product past its expiry date because they ‘feel guilty about the money they spent on it’, ‘worry they might need it later’ or simply ‘forget’. In fact, worrying they might need it later prompts 89% of women to keep old make-up, even though 87% of them know their products have expiration dates. The average consumer was found to own almost 40 make-up products, but only use five of these daily. The survey also revealed that less than one in five women discard their mascara – a product that has a particularly short shelf-life of just three to four months and can have health implications if used beyond this time, such as eye infections.

Stowaway is using the survey to promote its new ‘right-sized’ cosmetics models, which are designed to last for as long as a product’s shelf-life and cost less than other products.
