The latest statistics highlighting the extent of the counterfeit cosmetics trade continue to be disturbing – but there is also encouraging news that the war against personal care product fakers is reaping rewards.

The 2015 Situation Report on Counterfeiting in the European Union, issued by European Union (EU) police agency Europol on 30 April, revealed that 7.8% of cosmetics currently on sale in Europe are fakes. But there has also been a series of raids, arrests and seizures across Europe, an indication that the police may be turning the tide.
