The EU Cosmetics Regulation: A Conference on Compliance is being held at two UK locations (26 November in Manchester and 28 November in Milton Keynes) and is aimed at manufacturers, formulators or retailers of cosmetic and personal care products who face challenges complying with Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
Five speakers will be present for both conferences, both of which will be chaired by David Munden.
David Munden has worked in the cosmetics industry since the mid-sixties with Givaudan and Quest International, later with Max Factor/Revlon, Marcus Ellis Ltd and, finally, The Body Shop. David purchased Smallburgh Laboratories Ltd providing a formulations development and consultancy service and then Warnhams Ltd offering a manufacturing, packing and filling service. As both companies expanded, they merged into Advantis Laboratories Ltd. David is an Honorary Member of The Society of Cosmetic Scientists (Past President) and has twice been Honorary Secretary. He has lectured for the Society and organised many Society events. He is now a consultant for TSGE LLP. David will be speaking on the Outline of Key Provisions in the Cosmetic Products Regulation 1223/2009, Compiling Product Information Files (PIFs) and The EU Cosmetics Packaging Regulations.
Speaking on Substantiating Label Claims for Key Ingredients is Joyce Ryan, an Independent Consultant. Joyce acquired experience with Colgate Palmolive as a Product Development Scientist. She then specialised in product evaluations as a company expert in clinical trials. In 1989 Joyce established her Consultancy offering product testing and home user trials. Joyce’s experience is utilised by the training company “Statistics for Industry” where Joyce has lectured on the introductory and the specialist level courses. Joyce also lectured on the Society of Cosmetic Scientists’ Certificate Course and is the author of the Product Evaluation and Statistics modules for the Society. Joyce also assisted in the development of the BSc Cosmetic Science Degree course for the London College of Fashion. Joyce sits on the British Standards Committee for Sensory Analysis in Foods and is a member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists, the Society of Chemical Industry, the Market Research Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Dr Petrina Fridd will be speaking on GmP Compliance for the Manufacturers of Products. She is an independent consultant and has worked in the cosmetics and toiletries field for more than 30 years firstly as a Technical Representative for a raw materials supplier to the Cosmetic and Toiletries sector, then as a Non Food sector Technical Manager for one of the major UK retailers. For the last 20 years she has worked in the areas of quality management, product safety, performance and legislative requirements and more recently has been involved in the auditing of cosmetic and other sites to meet the requirements of various auditing criteria; including BRC Consumer Products, ISO 22716 and various retailer quality requirements. She is trained in the requirements of ISO22716, BRC CP, SA8000 and risk assessment.
Speaking on Safety Assessments will be Dr David Andrew who is Head of Human Health at TSGE LLP. David is a board-certified toxicologist (ERT, DABT) with extensive experience of the hazard, human exposure and risk assessment of chemicals in the EU, UK Government departments and various industry sectors. He has worked on the human safety assessment of chemicals and products in a number of EU regulated areas, using standard and bespoke exposure models. David has a background in the development of in vitro models for the investigation of chemical toxicity and is a member of the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA) task force on acute toxicity, a voluntary collaboration between the Commission and Industry groups which seeks to promote the uses of replacement, reduction and refinement methods in regulatory testing. David also works as a part-time lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University, where he provides undergraduate lectures in toxicology and toxicokinetics.
Amy Burrows, project manager for cosmetic regulatory affairs work at TSGE LLP will be speaking on the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP). Amy spent 16 years in contract research where she gained analytical chemistry experience and worked as study coordinator before moving into programme management. As a project manager, Amy was responsible for the conduct and coordination of multidisciplinary programmes of testing. She was also supervisor to other project managers.
