RPC Llantrisant reduces landfill by more than 90% 7-Apr-2011
RPC Llantrisant has successfully completed a project to reduce its landfill by more than 90% through the sale of factory waste. As a result says the company, it has reduced its factory’s carbon footprint, generated additional revenue and made significant cost savings.
The project is part of a longer-term effort to reduce energy use and waste and the company has worked with sustainable business expert Environwise to implement its latest strategy. RPC found that the local council was able to take away some of its waste items as part of its own sustainability commitment, while other resources were sold on for alternative use. As a result the company says it has reduced its annual landfill from 270 tonnes to less than 20 tonnes, and is working on reducing this figure to zero.
