Mobile app lets users capture favourite colours then scouts them out

A new mobile app has been developed that allows consumers to find cosmetic products in specific colours by capturing the colour in front of them.

The ShadeScout app, developed by FaceCake Marketing Technologies, is similar in concept to the Dulux Colour App, which lets users capture paint colours they see and then locate the shade.

Likewise, using ShadeScout users can capture any colour they see and then locate a cosmetic counterpart from more than 40 major beauty brands. Once it has located a match, it will deliver direct product matches to the app user. The shopper is then able to virtually try on the product that has been scouted and buy it directly through the app.

In addition to the main concept, users of the app can also take selfies, receive personalised recommendations and benefit from feedback from family and friends through an in-app social sharing option.

ShadeScout is able to scan for eyeshadow, blusher, lipstick and foundation, among others. Linda Smith, Founder and CEO of FaceCake, said: “With ShadeScout, you have the ability to instantly find products that match any color you see, from a celebrity’s red carpet look to a bouquet of fresh roses. You don't need to have product information to find that perfect match; ShadeScout finds it for you. A search engine for today's shoppers, ShadeScout makes it easy to find the products you want, virtually try them on, share them with friends, buy items, and is with you wherever you go.”
