French cosmetic giant Sephora's latest social networking innovation is a Facebook app, Sephora Framework.

The app allows users to decorate their Facebook cover images (timeline or profile) with one of 19 beauty-themed templates such as eye-liner borders, nail-polish splashes and jewel-inspired finishes.

The images can be shared via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and once they've shared an image, users can receive special codes to get free product samples from Sephora's website.

Users need to 'Like' the Framework page to get started, then upload their image and decorate it with a template.

The free samples, while stocks last, are offered against purchases of goods worth $25 or more from Sephora.com and include L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (0.34 oz), Balenciaga Paris Eau de Parfum (0.13 oz), Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Lolita (0.042 oz), and Shiseido Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam (1.1 oz).

Sephora has long been known for its social media savvy, especially in the mobile arena, and in January this year, came top (with a 'genius' level ranking) in L2's Prestige 100® Mobile IQ report for its "long-standing, sustained, iterative investment in mobile".

The report rated 100 brands for their innovation in mobile sites, mobile apps, mobile marketing and innovation and integration.
