Shiseido profits under pressure from sales tax

Shiseido operating profits have tumbled almost 45% to ¥27.6bn, a move largely blamed on Japan’s new sales tax and HR expenses.

However consolidated net profit – the amount of profit that includes subsidiary gains – rose 28.8% to ¥33.6bn, including the sale of the Decléor and Carita brands to L’Oréal.
