UK perfume retailer has reported an 11.8% increase in total sales over the Christmas period

UK perfume retailer The Fragrance Shop has reported an 11.8% increase in total sales over the Christmas period, compared with 2013.

Top selling scents included Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, 1 Million, Lady Million and Invictus, all by Paco Rabanne, and YSL’s most recent launch, Black Opium. The retailer noted that last minute sales purchases amounted to its largest sales days.

Underlying like-for-like sales were up 5% in the five weeks to December 27 compared with the same period last year. The retailer credits multichannel retailing as continuing to fuel sales, with strong growth from customers using its Click and Collect service to place orders online and collect in-store.

The Fragrance Shop also offers a Try It First service, which allows customers to receive a fragrance sample with their order, which they can try before opening the full-sized bottle – and can return the it if they don’t like the product, which has proven successful.

Sanjay Vadera, Chief Executive of The Fragrance Shop, said: "Our continued passion for fragrance, with highly trained staff both in our stores and our dedicated customer service team, really does make us first for fragrance.”

The retailer added 18 stores to its growing portfolio this year, opening doors to its 171st store in December, and it also won a prestigious ‘Best Store Design’ award from Cosmetics Business title Pure Beauty for its new concept flagship, Indulge Fragrance Boutique, based at the Trafford Centre in Manchester.
