UK gets engaged with mobile e-tailing
More than half of online sales expected to be via mobiles by end of 2014
One in ten retailers expect more than 50% of their online sales to come via mobile by the end of 2014, according to a survey conducted by IMRG, the UK association for e-retail. The organisation questioned around 50 senior e-commerce professionals (heads of e-commerce, CEOs, managing directors and marketing directors) about sales growth forecast, plans for international expansion, international delivery, Click & Collect, mobile commerce and customer retention strategies.
“Mobile devices now account for a third of UK e-retail sales,” said Tina Spooner, Chief Information Officer at IMRG. “The latest survey results also reveal that mobile has a key part to play in the multichannel retail environment, with three quarters of high street/multichannel retailers now having a mobile-optimised website.” While almost all merchants surveyed said they expect to see positive year on year sales growth, a significant proportion (42%) forecast sales growth to reach in excess of 20%.
