Beauty brands urged to reconsider approach

Young adults in China are under immense pressure to look good and be successful, according to a Canadean survey.

The study discovered 78% of Chinese consumers feel better-looking people have better opportunities in life. A further 58% believe that society has an increasingly narrow view of attractiveness.

Michael Hughes, Lead Analyst at Canadean, said: “Industry players should encourage consumers to adopt a wider view of what constitutes attractiveness. They should advocate feelings of happiness and esteem, as opposed to trying to achieve an image that in reality is neither achievable nor sustainable and not a reflection of the true identities of consumers.”
