Aims to increase C&T annual sales to ¥4bn by 2015

Japanese chemical company Showa Denko KK (SDK) plans to strengthen its personal care products business by integrating its sales and R&D capabilities. Currently the company’s sales and R&D functions are performed separately and divided into three segments: materials for skin care cosmetics; materials for curling agents; and medical care-related materials including those for medical equipment and base materials for pharmaceuticals for external application.

SDK says that the integration, which is due to take effect this month, will help concentrate management information as well as increase the speed of product development through closer cooperation between its sales, production and R&D units.

The company has targeted personal care products as one of its new growth businesses under its ‘Pegasus’ medium-term consolidated business plan and expects to increase annual personal care product sales to ¥4bn by 2015.
