Taminco expands capacity for intermediate surfactants
New DMAPA unit at US plant
Taminco is building a dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA) unit at its St Gabriel, LA plant in the US.
DMAPA is used primarily as a raw material for amine oxides and betaines, surfactants used in a wide range of personal care and household products including shampoos and body washes. Taminco says DMAPA-based surfactants are showing strong global growth because of their combination of a mild character and excellent performance.
"This new DMAPA capacity in the US is a perfect fit with our integrated amines and derivatives business model," says Sabine Ketsman, global business director for Taminco's speciality derivatives business unit. "We already produce DMAPA at our unit in Ghent, Belgium, but the rapid growth of DMAPA in the US and Latin America has triggered the need to develop local production to serve the demands of both local and global customers."
The Belgian company has eight production sites worldwide. The new unit is due to be on stream by the end of this year.
