Mantrose-Haeuser, a Connecticut based speciality film coatings company, has launched a new natural biopolymer for spray sunscreen applications. Demand for quality, spray-on sunscreen products that are quick and easy to apply and which provide long-lasting protection is growing. With this in mind, Mantrose-Haeuser developed Poly-Soleil, a natural biopolymer compatible with current spray sunscreen formulas.

Poly-Soleil is said to provide a natural film former alternative to the current petroleum-based acrylates/octylacrylamide copolymer used in many of today’s sunscreen sprays. Poly-Soleil is made from renewable resources and maintains active ingredients on the skin, giving it a natural, pleasant skin feel. It also meets the FDA broad spectrum critical wavelength requirements, as well as the new 80 minute water resistance criteria.

Tests conducted at AMA Laboratories confirm that Poly-Soleil passes the FDA 80 minute water resistance test in an SPF 50 sunscreen spray formula at concentration levels as low as 0.5%. Additional tests for extended four hour water resistance and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) with rub off were also successful. Poly-Soleil is a natural, food grade polymer that can be formulated directly into alcohol based systems or neutralised and incorporated into a water or hydro-alcoholic phase.
