Clinical efficacy
The clinical efficacy of Acnesium is demonstrated under dermatological control in a cohort of adult Caucasian patients suffering from slight to moderate acne.
After 30 days of twice daily application, Acnesium formulated at 0.5% in an emulsified gel significantly decreases the GEA score (Global evaluation acne) and reduces the number of cutaneous lesions, in comparison to the placebo formula.
With this care combining rapidity of action and efficacy, the pathology symptoms are attenuated, the general aspect of the skin is promoted, self-perception is enhanced and patients’ quality of life is improved.
Pharmacological activities
Acnesium restores the homeostasis of acneic skin by targeting the principal abnormalities:
- Colonisation by C. acnes is limited by reducing bacterial proliferation, quorum sensing activity and biofilm formation
- Activity of the sebaceous gland is regulated
- Inflammation is neutralised by limiting keratinocyte, sebocyte and lymphocyte inflammatory responses
- Hyperkeratinisation is reduced.
Naturality
Acnesium is a natural active ingredient obtained from the pericarps of immature pomegranates (Punica granatum). Indeed, Silab has demonstrated that the pericarp of immature pomegranates contains a rich and complex mixture of polyphenols whose interest for the optimal and transversal treatment of slight to moderate acne has been shown.
The Punica granatum supply chain of Silab aims to control and ensure the traceability of the raw material and to secure its supply. Work has been done in close cooperation with producers in order to precisely define the contract conditions of cultures and to guarantee standardization of the quality of the raw material.
Acnesium is composed of ellagitannins, primarily punicalagin and derivatives, as well as punicalin, derivatives of 2,3-(S)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl and ellagic acid.
Safety
Acnesium (INCI name: Maltodextrin & Punica granatum Pericarp Extract) is perfectly tolerated by adult acneic skin. A preservative-free powder (recommended amount: 0.05 to 0.5%) and without harmful or potentially allergenic substances, this active is recommended in dermo-cosmetic facial and body care intended for acneic skin.
