Hair loss, a common human affliction, occurs as a result of many pathophysiological skin conditions, as well as systemic disorders. The epithelial-mesenchymal interactions between keratinocyte stem cells, in particular outer root sheath cells (ORSc in the bulge region) and dermal papilla fibroblasts cells (DPc in the bulb region), are crucial for normal development of the hair follicle, as well as during the hair cycle.
