Striking can design and greener production technology marked this year’s awards

Striking can design and greener production technology marked this year’s World Aluminum Aerosol Can Awards organised by AEROBAL, the International Organisation of Aluminum Aerosol Container Manufacturers, and judged by 11 leading international trade journals for packaging and cosmetics, including SPC.

Aerocan won the award for ‘Can Already in the Market’ for a can for Right Guard anti-perspirant for men. The can body features grip areas inspired by US football protective clothing, communicating energy, strength and protection. Colour coding of the grip structure indicates differentiation within the line. The coloured, striped artwork fits with the embossed-debossed body shape as well as the spray actuator and the cap, giving the 45 mm diameter aerosol can an elegant look and a new visual effect. It also makes counterfeiting harder. Ultimately the can combines embossing technology with mass production know-how under consideration of stringent requirements of can quality and process control at high production speeds.

Aerocan and Tubex pick up 2010 aluminium aerosol can awards Tubex took the award for ‘Prototype’ category with its Yes Green Can. Sustainability is a key consideration for of all major aluminium aerosol can customers and this pack uses optimised material input and sophisticated production technology, embodying all the characteristics of modern sustainability. It features significant can weight reduction, which varies according to required pressure resistance, and is produced from slugs containing about 20% recycled clean and printed can production scrap, thus reducing the use of primary aluminium. VOC emissions from the can production process could be significantly reduced by the application of a solvent-free internal powder coating and the use of a water-based base coat and over-varnish.
