Designer works with P&G Prestige on new range of scents

Alexander McQueen has announced that it is expanding into fragrances. Its first scent has been named McQueen Parfum and will be available exclusively at Harrods next month.

Developed and distributed by P&G’s Prestige Beauty business, the scent will be priced at $385 for 50ml. A lower priced eau de parfum is expected to launch later this year. The scent is said to contain a combination of sambac jasmine, tuberose and ylang-ylang with top notes of pink and black pepper and vetiver.

The scent is packaged in a heavy glass bottle finished with a ring of antique gold feather around the neck of the bottle. Alexander McQueen has shared clips of the bottle in production on social media and via its website.

According to WWD the scent is expected to generate $50m in retail sales this year alone.

Alexander McQueen has previously created scents in collaboration with YSL Beauté: My Queen and Kingdom. Both products ceased production in 2008 and this is the first fragrance created with Creative Director Sarah Burton at the helm of the brand.

The scent is said to have been in development for the past three years and is a new addition to P&G’s portfolio as it goes through the process of streamlining its brand. The company is selling much of its beauty business, including several lower-end fragrances to Coty in a deal expected to close in the second half of this year.
