Alibaba and Perfect Corp partnership an ‘industry gamechanger’

Chinese conglomerate Alibaba has formed a strategic partnership with AR beauty company Perfect Corp.

Chinese shoppers will now be able to virtually try-on beauty products through Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao websites using Perfect Corp’s AI-powered YouCam Makeup app.

The partnership will increase consumer engagement with global beauty brands, such as, Chanel, Tom Ford, Dior and YSL Beauté.

Tmall’s General Manager Mike Tu said innovative technology would be “key” in driving sales over the next three years, especially in beauty.

“Technology will be the key to driving increased sales,” he said.

“We need the innovative technology to level up the consumers experience.”

Alice Chang, Perfect Corp’s CEO and co-founder said the new partnership is an “industry game changer” claiming it will bring an “innovative relationship between global brands and consumers”.

Brands including Eylure, L’Oréal and Estée Lauder have teamed up with Perfect Corp over the past few years.

Last week, it was reported by Bloomberg that Alibaba agreed to invest in the Taiwanes start-up, according to people close to the company.

However, this was not mentioned in the announcement.
