Plastic bottle and jar specialist makes strategic acquisition and announces opening of new facility in the Netherlands

Plastic bottle and jar supplier Alpha Packaging is to begin operations in Europe this month with the opening of a new production facility in Roosendaal, the Netherlands. The Missouri-based company further confirmed its interest in the region by acquiring smartPET, a Dutch blow moulder of PET bottles, which recently entered into the liquidation process.

According to Alpha, the original strategy was to begin operation on the manufacture of nutritional supplement PET packer-style bottles, which comprise the bulk of the company’s international sales. However Alpha also notes that the SmartPET acquisition will accelerate its timeline for making narrow neck liquid PET bottles. Alpha has already begun moving high-cavitation blow moulding machines from North America and equipment from SmartPET to the new facility, which it expects it to be fully operational by mid May.

“By bringing our existing machinery to Europe, we’ll hit the ground running with a great deal of capacity, ” Mike DeFazio, Alpha’s vp of operations says. “There is not anyone in this region who will have the efficiencies and production capacity that our machines yield.”
