Start-up baKblade raises more than $300,000 on Kickstarter

An innovative razor designed to allow consumers to shave their own backs has surpassed its fundraising target on Kickstarter.

The baKblade 2.0 features a wide razor attached to an extended handle and is said to be ergonomic for ease of use. The design has a flexible handle to allow users to reach difficult areas. Unique blade cartridges are said to minimise the risk of cutting the skin, while still giving a smooth finish.

baKblade says that its razor is comfortable to use and feels “just like a backscratcher”. It can be used wet or dry and doesn’t require shaving foam, although it can be used with them.

The company believes that the product offers a better alternative to using conventional shavers that are time consuming to use on such a large area and trimmers that can leave stubble behind. It is also cheaper and less painful than waxing.

The project has surpassed its original target of $50,000, raising a total of more than $300,000. The razor has now gone into production and will be available to purchase online and in stores.

Matt Dryfhout, President and Founder at baKblade, told Cosmetics Business that “a lot of time and work” had been invested in the Kickstarter launch. The baKblade 2.0 is now due to launch in 2017 in the UK, US and other countries.

Dryfhout said: “Our firm will not only be launching our new shaver but a line of products that manage and provide care for those ‘hard to reach’ areas. We are excited for the future and we believe we have the best solution to this ‘hairy’ problem.”

The brand already sells its original product online, alongside replacement blades for the shaver head.
