Boots’ first female Managing Director Elizabeth Fagan has stepped down from her role.

Fagan has been with the brand for almost 14 years, during which time she served as Marketing Director and Managing Director of International Retail at Walgreens Boots Alliance.

The Scottish businesswoman was appointed Managing Director of Boots in 2018 and has spent 18 months in the role.

During this time she is said to have been instrumental in delivering a number of strategic partnerships, including the retailer’s relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Upon Seb James’ appointment as CEO in 2018, Fagan was also appointed Non-Executive Chairman where she was made responsible for accelerating the evolution of the Nottingham Enterprise Zone initiative.

The project focuses on local innovation and economic growth, while driving positive change in local communities.

In a statement, Boots thanked Fagan for her contributions: “Elizabeth leaves with warm thanks for her significant contribution to the company over her long tenure.”

Fagan received a CBE in the Queen’s 2020 New Years Honours list announced last year.
