CPL Aromas, the world's leading fragrance-only fragrance house, has appointed Emily Heron as its first Head of Sustainability.
This new appointment has been made to ensure CPL's commitment to work in an environmentally sustainable manner is achieved by encouraging the communication and sharing of good practice between CPL Aroma's 17 global sites, raise awareness of important environmental issues and encourage continuous improvement across CPL Aromas network.
Emily Heron has worked with CPL Aromas for 6 years and is based at the company's European manufacturing facility in Brixworth, UK. She not only has a strong interest in protecting the environment but has also acquired a professional qualification in this field. She holds a BSc in Marine Biology and Oceanography from the University of Plymouth.
During her time at CPL Aromas, Emily has managed the QSHE department and has been responsible for building and coordinating environmental awareness throughout the company. She played a significant role in gaining certification of the international environmental standard ISO 1400:2015 at the Brixworth site.
CPL Aromas already has several sustainability initiatives in place including a pledge to add sustainably sourced ingredients to the perfumery palette. This commitment includes a partnership with farmers in Sri Lanka to use Black Pepper oil in fragrance creations.
In addition, CPL demonstrates its commitment to lower its impact on the environment using LED lighting across all sites. There are also other green technologies employed such as water saving schemes and waste reduction initiatives.

CPL Aromas supports The College of Fragrance for the Visually Impaired (COFVI) in Mumbai which trains people who are visually impaired and who have an interest in perfumery, so they may find employment opportunities within the fragrance industry.
It is now widely recognised that many people who are visually impaired have a heightened sense of smell and can make an important contribution to the fragrance industry. Part of Emily Heron's remit will be to work with other partners in the fragrance industry to find work for graduates of the college.
CPL Aroma's association with the charity CAFOD has also featured as an important part of the sustainability programme. CAFOD works to provide opportunities to those who are poor and in need in developing countries and CPL works closely to provide support on specific projects that help to improve the quality of life for those in need.
The Head of Sustainability role is an important and wide ranging appointment for the company and is supported wholeheartedly by the directors and share-holders, who recognise the need to take positive action for the benefit of current and future generations.
