C&T packaging took top honours at this year's Tube of the Year awards. The sector scooped two of the three main award sections, organised by The European Tube Manufacturers Association (ETMA). The event judged tubes in three categories - plastic, laminate and aluminium, as well as a category for prototype materials.

Alcan was victorious in the plastics category, winning with its shower gel and after-shave balsam tube for P&G'S Baldassarini Ambre fragrance line. The 50mm and 35mm diameter tubes feature a 3 colour silk screen printing design with silver embossing and flip top cap. A smaller 30mm tube finished in the same design with a screw top is also available.

Meanwhile, Swiss manufacturer Neopac was awarded first prize in the laminate tubes section for its Mediterranean tube designed for Elizabeth Arden's Mediterranean fragrance range. The body lotion tube features blue and green colouring combined with a metallic finish. The closure features a silver cap and a hammer finished surface, the first time a cap closure has been developed in this way for a tube with a rounded edge, according to the company.
