The company expects demand in personal care to continue to increase in 2013

Specialty chemicals producer Clariant has announced full year 2012 sales of CHF6.04bn, up 8% from last year’s result (CHF5.57bn). The increase was driven by the acquisition of Süd-Chemie. The company said organic growth was flat with 2% higher prices offsetting lower volumes.

Double digit growth in all regions except Europe helped to offset the economic fragility in southern Europe which spread across the rest of the continent in the second half of the year.

Sales in the Industrial and Consumer Specialties Business Unit rose 1% in local currencies and were flat in Swiss francs compared to the same period in 2011, with robust growth in Asia/Pacific, Europe and North America. The company expects demand growth in Personal Care to continue in 2013.

Clariant CEO Hariolf Kottman said: “Combined with continuous cost efficiency, the reshaped Clariant is well positioned to achieve its 2015 targets.”
