‘Clean’ beauty retailer The Detox Market has continued its buying spree with the acquisition of Canadian e-commerce site Clementine Fields.

This is the company’s third acquisition in the last five years, after taking over the operations of Toronto retailer Husk in 2015 and purchasing e-commerce company Fresh Faced the following year.

The North American retailer was the brainchild of Romain Gaillard who wanted to create a “safe haven” for consumers to shop beauty products that were transparent about their ingredients list.

Since founding the business in 2010, the brand has partnered with more than 100 brands including Pai Skincare, Aromatherapy Associates, Kjaer Weis and Yuni Beauty.

“The acquisition of Clementine Fields will allow for us to continue to grow The Detox Market online as a brand and household name in Canada, along with our equity in the US market,” said Gaillard.

“We are excited to consolidate our presence in British Columbia and Alberta where Clementine Field has strength in the market.”

With the purchase, The Detox Market will add brands available via Clementine Fields to its repertoire.

Clementine Fields' founders Ingrid Doucet and Tom Barnett established the retailer after Doucet was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2007.

“I respect Ingrid and Tom, and their impetus for starting Clementine Fields,” added Gaillard.

“They are truly passionate and trustworthy. I started The Detox Market after learning about the toxicity in personal care products from a close friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“In 2010, I sought out to create a welcoming safe haven from an underregulated beauty industry – and a platform for education.”
