Foster will oversee Coty’s ecommerce strategy for all three of the manufacturer’s divisions: luxury, consumer and professional beauty.

He joins Coty from his role of CEO at Crowdtap. His 20 years of experience in e-commerce includes President of Avon online and the Head of Marketing for Gilt.

Coty said Foster will aim to build better omnichannel user journeys and to amplify the e-commerce domain depth across its major markets through accelerated recruitment and capability investments.

Foster will be based in New York and will report to the Chief Digital & Media Officer Jason Forbes.

"We've been building four digital pillars: Marketing Science, Content Foundry, Media Optimisation and Omnichannel," said Forbes.

"Our priority is expanding consumer reach with better content on the right media platforms to drive sales in a highly fluid marketplace. Sean's background is a perfect fit for this."

The beauty giant claims the new appointment is key step in Coty's digital transformation.

In 2015, it announced the purchase of social content agency Beamly.

Last year Coty’s CEO reportedly told Wall Street investors that it would further its focus on digital communications and would play a primary role in 2017.

CEO of Coty Camillo Pane said: "Digital is a cornerstone of our strategy for the new Coty.

“At the core of this focus is our commitment to working with our priority retailer, salon and stylist partners to drive category growth.

“We are excited to welcome Sean to Coty to help us build a richer set of ecommerce capabilities.”

Foster said: "I'm delighted to be joining Coty given the level of executive buy-in I've seen around digital.”

"It’s going to be a great chapter building Coty’s ecommerce teams and working with our markets to outperform on brand and retailer ecommerce KPIs."
