Video series follows four inspiring women

Cover Girl is celebrating one year since the start of its five-year long #GirlsCan campaign with a new series of Youtube videos. The make-up brand has committed $5m to the cause and is sharing the results of its first year in action.

Journalist Soledad O'Brien created the video content series as part of the second year of activities. The clips feature four women who have achieved their dreams, despite significant challenges. The women starring in the clips are Becky G, a Latina rap artist, Geena Rocero, a transgender woman, model and entrepreneur, Tina Garnanez, a female military veteran and chess superstar Rochelle Ballantyne.

O'Brien commented: "Women today are out there breaking barriers and setting records in all sectors of their lives but are still facing challenges that many people wouldn't expect in the new millenium. We are so excited to work with Cover Girl and share our series on how these courageous women are changing society. Their struggles are real and relatable while their stories are inspiring."

As part of the campaign, Cover Girl has already helped to fund 500 new coding club programs with Girls Who Code, granted 36 scholarships to young women pursuing higher education and donated sales from its mascara to non-profit organisations Step Up and Dress for Success.
