DSM, one of the industry’s leading suppliers of ingredients and innovative solutions for beauty care products, will celebrate the inaugural event of the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists in New York, May 2–3, by introducing a new active to the world.
Say the words ageing skin and most people think of wrinkles. Yet DSM’s consumer research has revealed that people can be just as concerned about conspicuously enlarged pores and areas of darker pigmentation known as age spots, which are exacerbated by sunlight.
DSM’s latest skin active, BEAUACTIVE, addresses both these concerns and has the added advantage of strong green credentials. This highly pure, potent hydroxystearic acid is produced by bioconversion of sunflower-derived oleic acid using DSM’s proprietary technology. Importantly, BEAUACTIVE is approved for sale in China, where enlarged pores and pigmentation are prime skin-ageing concerns.
In vitro research at DSM revealed that BEAUACTIVE activates the nuclear receptor PPARα, a master cell regulator which triggers multi-target effects. Upon UVB stress, BEAUACTIVE hinders the production of both sunburn cells and the stress marker p53, which can increase skin pigmentation. It also increases production of collagen I and III, which can help reduce pore size. In vivo studies confirmed the outstanding ability of BEAUACTIVE to visibly reduce conspicuously enlarged facial pores and age spots, improving the appearance of skin after the age of 30.
