Domestic market growth buoys Pola Orbis results

Published: 2-May-2013

Net sales for Q1 grew 5.9%

The gradual recovery on the Japanese cosmetics market has seen Pola Orbis post modest growth figures for the first quarter of 2013. Despite slowdowns in personal spending in China and India, the rest of Asia continues to grow slowly, according to the company.

Consolidated net sales for the quarter of fiscal 2013 grew 5.9% year on year to ¥41.238bn primarily due to the acquisition of Jurlique last year. Both Jurlique and H2O+ saw steady growth in Asia, contributing to a net income rise of 74.3% year on year to ¥1.258bn.

Within the company’s The Beauty Care segment, which consists of flagship brands Pola and Orbis, as well as Jurlique, H2O+, pdc, Future Labo, Orlane, Decencia and Three, the company has been ramping up sales through the company’s Pola The Beauty store network. As a result, net sales climbed 6.2% on last year to ¥38.559bn, while operating income was ¥1.472bn – up 47.9% year on year.
