DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, Corbion, INOLEX and ACT Solutions unveil collaborative range at Suppliers' Day

The personal care range will deliver high performance and up to 100% bio-based content, achieving high performance and high bio-based content formulations

A key challenge for personal care formulators is to create natural and sustainable products that do not compromise the levels of performance and safety demanded by consumers today. Many claims of 'natural' or 'plant-based' content are not supported by certified content, which can make consumers wary of the entire industry. Now, through an innovative collaboration project, we are bringing the ability to create certified, high performing, bio-based content formulations to the personal care market.

"These newly formulated personal care products developed through our technical collaboration are proof the formulator no longer needs to trade off between performance and sustainability when selecting ingredients," explains Steve Hurff, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products.

During the Suppliers' Day exhibition on 7-8 May in New York City, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products (booth #742), Corbion (booth # 203) and INOLEX (booth #1025) will showcase 15 new certified high bio-based content leave-on and rinse-off finished product formulas to experience firsthand. The formulations were developed and packaged by personal care industry recognised experts, ACT Solutions Corp.

"Collaboration is in our DNA at Corbion and we are excited to a partner with other worldclass bio-based ingredient suppliers to bring these innovative formulas to personal care companies and consumers," adds Lisa Swain, Global Market Director Biochemicals at Corbion.

Based on global consumer trends, the increasing need for both high performance and truly natural ingredients is now a mandate for product formulators

A critical requirement of this collaboration was to have each formula receive USDA BioPreferred product certification, which relies on a quantitative ASTM test method performed by a certified ASTM laboratory to determine bio-based content. This certification has the potential to serve as a new way to quantify the definition of natural ingredients.

"Consumer demand for natural products is continuously growing and they expect products that perform. The market-ready bio-based formulations developed in this collaboration are a significant step forward in delivering consumer-desired products that are certified for bio-based content," adds Lisa Gandolfi, Director of Marketing at INOLEX.

"With innovative formulation design and an excellent availability of bio-based ingredients today, we show that it is possible to build a range of USDA Certified Biobased Products at or near 100% 'natural' content that rival or surpass the best in terms of aesthetics, stability and performance," explains Mark Chandler, President at ACT Solutions.

These ready-made formulations have been tested across a wide range of industry accepted criteria, including stability testing, to ensure they meet the demanding requirements for personal care products. Based on global consumer trends, the increasing need for both high performance and truly natural ingredients is now a mandate for product formulators.
