ECHA wants companies to become \'lead registrants\' for the next round of registering substances

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) wants cosmetics and other chemical based companies to become ‘lead registrants’ for the next round of registering substances under European Union (EU) chemical control system REACH, due by May 2013. Lead registrants coordinate businesses undertaking registrations of the same substances, helping them share data and the administrative workload.

Meanwhile, ECHA has unveiled a further list of 2,300 substances to be registered in the next registration round. Personal care product ingredients and packaging inputs are within the list. ECHA said lead registrants had been identified for two-thirds of these substances – it would release their names with permission, so they can be contacted.
