The country’s beauty industry achieved a 2012 turnover of €9.6bn despite continued economic concerns in Europe

Italian industry association Unipro has revealed the state of the Italian beauty industry in its latest annual report for 2013. According to Unipro’s head of research Gian Andrea Positano, the country’s beauty industry achieved a 2012 turnover of €9.6bn despite continued economic concerns in Europe.

The solid figure is a result of industrial production in Italy, as well as the country’s continued presence in foreign markets which saw exports climb by 7% last year. The perfumery channel, meanwhile, remains a dominant market in the country, accounting for 23% of total Italian consumption of cosmetics. Last year, however, perfume sales fell slightly (5%) on the previous year to €2.2bn.
